Cars of Comic Book Heroes

SuperhCars of Comic Book Hereoseroes have super wheels. Throughout the years, some of our favorite comic book heroes have driven some pretty cool vehicles, ones we wouldn’t mind having here at Nalley Toyota of Roswell. Here are just a few examples.

Batman’s Batmobile

The Batmobile is the most famous of all comic book hero cars, and it’s no wonder– it’s awesome! From the first Batmobile in the 1940s to the current movie’s mega-machine, the Batmobile has set the standard for superhero super cars. Batman’s wheels are some of the most iconic in the world.

The most famous iteration of the Batmobile is the 1955 Lincoln Futura that custom car builder George Barris “batified,” adding some of the coolest gadgets the world had ever seen: rockets, parachutes, radar and a phone! It was so cool that Batman’s arch enemy, The Joker, had to get himself a set of custom wheels, too. But like the man himself, the Jokermobile (and Jokerplane!) didn’t measure up.

Bat Cycles

In addition to the Batmobile, Batman also had the Batcycle. Not to be outdone, Robin had his own flashy motorcycle called RedBird (and a car too), and even Batgirl got in the game with her chic, purple Batgirl Cycle.

Green Arrow’s Arrowcar

Although not as well-known as his buddy Batman, super archer Green Arrow had some pretty cool wheels as well. His Arrowcar, sometimes called the Arrow Plane (ha, ha) was based on the then land speed record-holding car, the ultra-cool Golden Arrow.

The Fantastic Four’s Fantasti-Car

The Fantasti-Car originally looked a little like a flying bathtub. The updated versions were a little cooler, but still look a bit like a flying slipper. Designed by Reed Richards and Johnny Storm, the modern Fantasti-Car can go over 500 miles an hour, soar to over 30,000 feet, and split into three sections.

Superman’s Supermobile

Come again? Why does a dude that can fly need a car? Glad you asked! Even Superman can lose his powers. And if he does, he’s got the Supermobile standing at the ready. It’s more than just a car though; it can do everything Superman can do, including packing a wicked punch!

Captain America’s Motorcycle

In the 1980s, Captain America rode a custom Harley-Davidson. Several of his bikes have bit the dust through the years, but he keeps getting a newer, cooler bike. In the 2011 film with Golden Age Cap, Steve rides a souped-up WWII motorcycle that looks prepared for just about anything.

Wonder Woman’s Invisible Plane

Originally, Wonder Woman’s Invisible Plane was a nifty bit of Amazonian engineering. Her golden tiara allowed her to control the plane with her mind. Later, the origin of the plane changed, and it became a shape-shifting horse named Pegasus and later, a space-faring jet. Finally, they just gave Wonder Woman the ability to fly. The plane currently sits in invisible mothballs in case she has to tote around a bunch of her non-flying friends.

Spider-Man’s Spider-Mobile

Never one to pass up the opportunity to turn a buck (and in this case make an eco-statement too), Spider-Man, along with his buddy the Human Torch, built the Spider-Mobile. Commissioned by Corona Motors to advertise their new non-polluting car, Spidey reluctantly accepted the offer, and the Spider-Mobile was born. It looked a bit like a dune buggy on steroids, complete with ejector seat and web shooters.

Toyota Dominates Comsumer Reports Best Picks for 2012

You might want to start calling 2012 “Year of the Toyota.” That’s certainly what Consumer Reports seemed to indicate when they released their annual “Best Models of the Year” report. Five out of the 10 available top spots went to Toyota – the first time a brand has taken over the list. Consumer Reports credited Toyota’s ability to keep a strong lead in the hybrid and SUV market, and also its strength in a weaker minivan field. The editors of Consumer Reports looked at more than 260 vehicles, and used road test scores, reliability ratings, and safety factors to determine the best automobile.

With a starting price of $29,052, the Toyota Camry Hybrid took top spot in the Family Sedan category. With an impressive and best-in-class 38 mpg overall fuel economy, the Camry also has a stronger performance than some smaller hybrids. Other imprsessive features included a roomy, quiet, and improved cabin, good acceleration and an improved handling.

For best small SUV, the title went to the Toyota RAV4. Consumer Reports made special note of its performance, fuel economy, and versatility. The RAV4 is a win-win situation: The four-cylinder engine provides some of the best gas mileage in its class, and with the V6 engine you can accelerate as quickly as most sports sedans, and only gives up 1 mpg less than the four cylinder. The RAV4 starts at $25,405.

If you’re looking for a top-rated “family hauler,” then Consumer Reports recommends the Toyota Sienna, specifically a Sienna with the available V6 engine. Starting at $35,810, the Sienna features a comfortable interior that can fit up to eight people, plenty of family-friendly features, and good fuel economy. Consumer Reports recommends the front-wheel drive version, although the Sienna is also the only minivan with all-wheel drive.

Electric cars are becoming capitalized on more and more, but the Toyota Prius is still the car to beat. The 44 overall mpg in the hatchback is the highest of any five-passenger, non-plug-in vehicle tested by Consumer Reports, and the Prius V has best-in-class 41 mpg. With great crash-test results, practicality, and affordability, there’s no better option. The Prius has a starting price of $26,750.

The Toyota Highlander has been consistently ranking near the top of its class in Consumer Reports road-test scores and reliability. This year, it finds its way to the top of the “ Best Family SUV” list with its refined features, quiet ride, and a comfortable cabin. If you go for the Highlander with the V6 engine you get a respectable 18 overall mpgs, and if you go for the hybrid model you’re looking at a best-in-class 27 overall mpgs. The Highlander starts at $38,578.

Want to improve your year with one of these models? Simply head over to Nalley Toyota of Roswell today to check out our great inventory! We’re more than happy to help you pick out one of these great Toyotas.

Toyota Know-How Boosts Reconstruction in New Orleans

Hurricane Katrina hit seven years ago, but for some, the damage and destruction in their lives is just as bad now as it was then. The St. Bernard Project, a nonprofit focused on helping the needs of Hurricane Katrina survivors, has been helping to rebuild homes and communities in New Orleans since 2006.

Founders Zack Rosenburg, an attorney, and Liz McCartney, a teacher, started the organization after seeing the devastation across the region. Hundreds of families have been helped since then, and with the partnership of Toyota, hundreds more are being helped, even more quickly and efficiently than ever before.

Toyota’s partnership with the St. Bernard Project has helped the nonprofit streamline their organization, increasing quality, productivity, safety, and reducing customer wait time in the rebuilding of houses. These production-system techniques were shared by the Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC), the nonprofit arm of Toyota.

With the guidance and support of the TSSC, the St. Bernard Project has become almost 50 percent quicker at completing the reconstruction of one home, and the amount of houses being rebuilt per month has jumped from 8.6 to 12.8. What’s more, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America President and Chief Operating Officer Shigeki Terashi presented $100,000 to further the work of the St. Bernard Project.

The St. Bernard Project is just one of more than 170 companies and nonprofits that Toyota has chosen to support. With their continued support, these organizations can continue to help better our planet and the people who live on it. We at Nalley Toyota of Roswell are proud to be affiliated with a brand so dedicated to giving back!

2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Toyota has a long history of SUVs, even before they were called SUVs. Although there were off-road Toyotas before the FJ Cruiser’s ancestor, it was the 1960 FJ40 that first propelled the name Toyota into the off-road community. Today’s FJ Cruiser is an homage to the original FJ40, but it certainly isn’t behind the times. The exterior, which includes such FJ40 touches as the white roof, wraparound rear windows and extended front bumper, has been freshened a little since the SUV’s launch in 2006, but the design has stayed largely unchanged.

Under the hood is a 4.0-liter V6 engine that puts out 260 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, and with that running through either the six-speed manual or the five-speed automatic gearbox, the FJ Cruiser is no slouch. Like the exterior, the interior has been slightly updated since the vehicle’s launch, but it still has that tough off-road image with a square dashboard. One especially nice touch is the use of two sun visors – one that swings down normally behind the windshield, and another that swings down over the side window.

Overall, the FJ Cruiser feels like a tough off-roader, much like a Hummer. The difference here is that the FJ Cruiser hasn’t turned into a caricature of itself with too much chrome and glitz.

The FJ Cruiser is also surprisingly capable off road, as drives in such diverse environments as muddy trails and windswept sand dunes reveal the FJ Cruiser is more than just a cosmetic package. It should be good off road, as many parts of the FJ Cruiser are shared by the equally capable Toyota Prado sold in other markets around the world. While it’s not sportscar-sharp on the road, the FJ Cruiser resists body roll well and handles more than adequately for an SUV.

The FJ Cruiser range is pretty simple, with a two-wheel drive version and two four-wheel drive versions. The range starts with a two-wheel drive automatic for those who aren’t too concerned about travelling off the beaten track. For a MSRP of $25,990, you get standard air conditioning, MP3 capable stereo with Sirius XM satellite radio, Bluetooth phone and wireless music streaming system, water resistant seats and hard wearing floor coverings.

On the safety side, the entry level FJ Cruiser comes with Vehicle Stability Control, ABS, Traction Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Brake Assist. The airbag count includes dual front airbags, seat-mounted front side airbags and full-length curtain airbags. Move up to the $27,170 FJ Cruiser 4×4 with manual transmission and you get a locking central differential for real off-road work. The $27,580 top-of-the-line FJ Cruiser shares the specifications of the 4×4 manual version, but its five-speed automatic gearbox and part-time four-wheel drive help save fuel when on-road.

Just like the original FJ40, the FJ Cruiser has a timeless design still looks right now, proving that you can look to both the past and the future in the same car. Schedule a time to come check one out at Nalley Toyota of Roswell!

Ask A Technician: Do I need a tire gauge to fill my tires?

Q. My tires need air but I don’t have a tire gauge.  Should I put some air in anyway?

A. If your tires are obviously low, then yes, a little air is a good idea. Tire pressure gauges are cheap and it’s always a good idea to have one on hand. Even if you don’t have one, most air pumps at gas stations have them on the hose. In a pinch, ask the station attendant if he has one you can borrow. Properly inflated tires aren’t just safer, they can save you money at the pump too.

A properly inflated tire shouldn’t have any noticeable bulge above the tread. If your tire is low, you’ll see a flattening at the base of the wheel.

Under-inflated tires get hotter than they should, which can lead to a blowout. The increase in heat also increases roll resistance and costs you in the fuel economy department. If you’ve ever ridden a bike with a tire that’s not inflated properly, you know how your car feels. It takes a lot more energy to move it along than it would if the tire had the proper amount of are in it. Under-inflated tires give your less steering control and stability, too.

Bottom line – fork over a few bucks for a quality tire pressure gauge. Guessing the PSI isn’t a game you’re going to win.
